Spotlight: Gerald Anderson

 

More than a year after their breakup, actor Gerald Anderson admitted that he misses former onscreen and real-life sweetheart actress Kim Chiu.

“Lahat na-miss ko kay Kim — ‘yung pagiging professional niya, ‘yung pagiging sweet niya, nakakamiss rin kasama si Kim eh,” he said.

That’s why Anderson said he is thrilled to be working with Chiu for an upcoming movie.

For its 20th anniversary celebration, talent management firm Star Magic has reunited “Kimerald” for an all-star movie featuring other home-grown Kapamilya talents.

“Isa ‘yun sa mga dapat abangan. Kami po ang magka-partner ni Kim dito sa bagong movie ng Star Magic, so exciting. Excited na ‘ko makasama si Kim ulit sa movie,” Anderson said in an interview with ABS-CBN News.

 

 

On the possible awkwardness between him and Chiu on set, the “Budoy” star said he is confident that it will just be like old times.

“Wala namang ilangan. Four years kami magka-love team ni Kim, kaya pagdating sa trabaho, sanay na sanay na kami. At saka panibagong challenge ‘to kasi ngayon lang kami magsasama ulit after more than a year,” Anderson said.

 

 

Anderson, who is being romantically linked to Pop Star Princess Sarah Geronimo, said he is happy that his former girlfriend continues to have a thriving career.

“Happy rin ako para kay Kim sa mga nagaganap sa buhay niya, at sobra akong nagpapa-salamat sa kanya for everything,” he said.

A beautiful and unpredictable storyline too. Amazing performance award goes to: Dingdong Dantes

 

8. Pak! Pak! My Dr. Kwak (Vic Sotto and Bea Alonzo) – This is memorable because this marks the return of Vic Sotto in the Star Cinema family. This is also his first project with the likes of Pokwang, Zaijan Jaranilla and Bea Alonzo. The story s very straightforward and conventional but still worth watching if you’re feeling blue. 7. In The Name Of Love (Angel Locsin, Jake Cuenca and Aga Muhlach) – One of the best love stories of all time. Although the ending ruined it for me, I still enjoyed this film and the chemistry between the three main characters is undeniable. Amazing performance award goes to: Aga Muhlach

 

6. Enteng ng Ina mo (Vic Sotto and Aiai Delas Alas) – A cinematic moment we thought will never ever happen. This is definitely the MMFF 2011′s biggest film and the most successful comedy flick of the year in terms of entertainment value. It was lovely seeing the two royalties (Vic and Aiai) share the big screen. Amazing performance award goes to: Aiai Delas Alas

 

5. Ligo na U, Lapit na Me (Edgar Allan Guzman and Mercedes Cabral) – A very witty, feel-good, funny and sexy film that changed my perception of independent cinema. The script was very well written and the acting were real and flawless. I love it! Amazing performance award goes to: Edgar Allan Guzman

 

4. Praybeyt Benjamin (Jimmy Santos, Derek Ramsay, Eddie Garcia and Vice Ganda) – The top-grossing Filipino film of 2011. Why it didn’t top my list? I didn’t feel the impact of this film in terms of the social and cultural push unlike those movies in the Top 3. Very funny though but it lacks some creative juices to make it more fascinating. Amazing performance award goes to: Eddie Garcia

 

3. Manila Kingpin: Asiong Salonga Story (Carla Abellana, Philip Salvador and Jeorge Estregan Jr.) – The MMFF’s dark horse who swept the major awards this year including Best Picture. It was well written and the execution was very compelling and different from the previous Asiong Salonga biopics. Amazing performance award goes to: John Regala

 

2. Ang Babae sa Septic Tank (JM De Guzman, Kean Cipriano and Eugene Domingo) – World-class! This is the only Filipino film this year that I am very very proud of and I know it can compete internationally. Very captivating storyline. It is not as exciting as you would expect it to be but mind you, this is a good quality movie. Amazing performance award goes to: Eugene Domingo

 

1. No Other Woman – Not only did No Other Woman broke box-office records, it also set some high standards when it comes to love stories. Very straightforward storyline but because it was magnificently written, it turned out to be a piece of gem. The simplicity of the concept made it more interesting. It depicts real-life drama which we, Filipinos, love! Amazing performance award goes to: Carmi Martin & Anne Curtis

Movie Review: Catch Me I’m In Love

CATCH ME I’M IN LOVE – Another risk from Star Cinema. Gerald Anderson came out of a recent hullabaloo involving him and Bea Alonzo. It is a given fact that the fan base of Gerald (and Kim Chiu) are slightly more belligerent than they should be and to pair him with another actress in a romantic picture is, for me, not the best move from their mother studio.

I am happy to admit though that I was wrong. I think this film gave Gerald the chance to shine as the actor that he wanted to be and not as the second half of the Kimerald loveteam. Although his signature screen appeal is still the same, I believe that it was a risk worth taking predominantly on Gerald’s part. As for Sarah Geronimo, it is also a perfect spot for her to bear out that her past Box-Office Queen titles were not purely products of John Lloyd Cruz’ popularity but can be also regarded as her achievement.

They came from two of the biggest on-screen loveteams and to pair them up in a massive production like this, it was inevitable for people to think about the motives behind it and question whether this team-up will outdo their previous projects. I don’t think it did, especially for Gerald, but I think it was worth the shot. The whole story was very light, archetypal, seasonal (with all these Royal Wedding malarchy) and banal. There was no major conflict which makes it a bit boring in terms of story development. The flow of events is not original and luckily, the stars leading the cast (as well as the supporting actors) were brilliant otherwise, it would have been ANOTHER ROMANTIC-COMEDY FILM.

I was hoping for a more inimitable concept although I think the material used was very ‘Sarah Geronimo’ and therefore it might not work if she was given a different plot. There were no remarkable lines or scenes compared to the previous Sarah starrers. That only means the screenplay was not that strong either. Thank goodness, Gerald and Sarah has the chemistry. They jive very well on screen and the ‘kilig’ factor is present which I think is the saving element of the whole movie.

What I love the most about this film is the unassuming nature in Sarah’s character. Accepting that sometimes, we do create our own problems and our insecurities as individuals could easily beat us and break our relationships with other people. I love how the film played with the fairy-tale concept and gave ordinary people like us the hope and positive spirit that dreams do come true and love knows no status in life. Gerald Anderson is the perfect choice for this character. I have a high regard for how he captivated not just my attention as a viewer but my heart as well (not romantically lol). You can feel the unaffectedness in his character as well as in Sarah’s. This film might have failed in terms of its technical and production inventiveness but it certainly won in terms of characterization and delivery of the message.

It inspired me (personally) to believe that there is a right person for me. I don’t have to look for it. I don’t have to search for that person. Destiny, time and chance can only tell when is the right time to fall in love.
