What’s up next for Superman after he saves the world? Variety is reporting that British actor Henry Cavill, who is finishing up work on Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, is looking to schedule his next role after Supes and it might be a project called The Great Wall being developed by Legendary East in China. The Great Wall, which is indeed a film about China’s Great Wall, is being directed by Edward Zwick (Love and Other Drugs, Blood Diamond, The Last Samurai, Legends of the Fall) from a script he wrote with Marshall Herskovitz. Sounds like an interesting prospect for Cavill, and similar to Christian Bale starring in The Flowers of War.
Legendary East, the Chinese production arm of Thomas Tull’s Legendary Pictures partnered with the Huayi Brothers, is producing the film with Zwick, Herskovitz, Tull and Legendary’s Jon Jashni along with Atlas Entertainment’s Alex Gartner and Chuck Roven. They’re goal is to produce “one or two event films a year,” so this will be a big production, which is obvious with Zwick at the helm and Cavill in the lead. Variety says the story looks at the mystery behind how China’s Great Wall was constructed from a story conceived by Legendary Pictures chairman Thomas Tull and Max Brooks. But no word on how exactly Cavill fits into that story. I’m curious, but not sold, I need to hear more about this and why it’s such an event movie to begin with, including how it’ll be presented, in a foreign language or English. We’ll keep you updated on anything.
VERY EXCITING!
