Keith Urban completes the new American Idol panel!

Just one day after a lot of American Idol buzz saying that country singer Keith Urban was a front-runner for a judge’s chair, it’s being reported today, August 26, 2012, that Urban has indeed signed a contract deal with the popular star search show.

The country chair was between Brad Paisley and Keith Urban; however, Paisley was asking for close to $8 million, reportedly what Idol is offering Nicki Minaj. Urban’s deal is said to be in the $3 – $4 million range. Seems low, but Urban may not be in it just for the money.

Currently on tour after successful vocal cord surgery, Urban has been talking about taking a break so he can spend more time with family. He is married to actress Nicole Kidman and they have two little girls. Urban is also working on material for a new album and is keen on getting back in the studio. The deal with Idol should help him stay home and achieve his goals.

Comments from Keith Urban’s fans were immediate and positive. There were many on the Taste of Country web site stating that Urban being named as a judge would cause them to tune back in.

So as of right now, the judge’s panel on American Idol for Season 12 is Randy JacksonMariah Carey and Keith Urban. But what about Nicki Minaj and the other name that is supposedly in consideration, Enrique Iglesias? There have been no confirmations as of this moment. And if the two do sign on, that makes five judges. What will happen?

That, of course, is anybody’s guess. Current industry rumors have Idol with a four-judge panel when everyone is signed, sealed and delivered. Those four would be Mariah CareyNicki Minaj,Keith Urban and Enrique Iglesias. That’s figuring that original judge Randy Jackson would move to another capacity on Idol or leave the show entirely.

With the announcement that Keith Urban has signed a contract, there are now three judges. Will there be four or even five? We’ll just have to wait for contract announcements. A lot can happen, though, between now and January 2013 when Season 12 of American Idol begins.

Team USA reigned supreme – tops London Olympics 2012

As expected, Team USA reigned supreme and bested China in terms of medal tally in the recently concluded London Olympics 2012. The biggest victory is of course the Basketball Team. The ‘dream team’ beat Spain’s strong line-up in a tight match yesterday, few hours before the grand closing ceremony.

Some of the big American winners apart from the Basketball team include the Women’s Gymnastics Squad, Women’s Football Team and the dynamic swimming duo, Ryan Lochte and the World’s Greatest Olympian, Michael Phelps!

Here’s the Top 20 medal tally:

X-Factor Philippines Top 12 revealed!

The country’s biggest musical event of the year “The X Factor Philippines” recently unveiled its 12 finalists who will compete in the much-awaited live shows beginning this Saturday (Aug 4) and face the fifth and most critical judge in the competition— the viewing public.

Judge-mentor Martin Nievera, together with international singing sensation Arnel Pineda as his chosen guest celebrity judge, picked student Gabriel Anciano, college graduate Jeric Medina, and another student, Kedebon Colim, to represent the Boys (solo male performers 16-25 yrs old).

Freelance singer Allen Sta. Maria, dive guide Jerrianne Templo, and band vocalist KZ Tandingan, on the other hand, will represent the Girls (solo female performers 16-25 yrs old) as chosen by their judge-mentor Charice with the help of her guest celebrity judge and fellow Pinay pride Cheesa, who recently became a finalist in the hit US singing competition “The Voice.”

In the Over 25s category (solo performers 26 yrs old and above), judge-mentor Pilita Corrales, together with guest celebrity judge Rico J. Puno, put through musician Joan Da, freelance singer Mark Mabasa, and former security officer Modesto Taran to advance to the final round.

The Groups (16 yrs old and above) category composed of all-male quartet Daddy’s Home, boyband Take Off, and all girl group Lucky Girls wouldn’t be left behind as they were chosen by their judge-mentor Gary Valenciano with the help of guest celebrity judge and world champion Jed Madela.

The final 12 will battle it out in the live shows starting Saturday (Aug 4) at the PAGCOR Grand Theater in Paranaque where they will sing various movie theme songs.

Their future now lies in the hands of the public who will decide via text vote who among them should stay in the competition and who among them shall leave. The finalist with the lowest number of overnight text votes will be booted off in the show.

Whose ‘x factor’ will shine best and who will be exed out of thecompetition? Who among the judge-mentors will say goodbye to one of their three chosen finalists by Sunday?

The competition gets tougher in “The X Factor Philippines” first live show this Saturday (Aug 4), after “MMK, and first elimination night this Sunday (Aug 5), after “Sarah G Live” on ABS-CBN. James Holmes ala Joker

James Holmes in Joker hairdo is now a trending topic on the net. 24-year-old Holmes, the suspect behind the “Batman” massacre appeared in court on Monday sporting a Joker hairdo.

James Holmes is being accused of killing 12 moviegoers and injuring 58 others in a shooting spree during the midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises” in Colorado.

There are speculations that Holmes is influenced by Batman’s most popular villain–The Joker–when he entered a court for the first time on Monday, July 23, with dyed orange hair.

According to reports, Holmes appeared in a maroon jailhouse jumpsuit emotionless, sleepy, and sometimes his eyes staring out blankly as if he was in a daze. Security was also said to be extra tight last Monday as uniformed sheriff’s deputies were stationed outside, including on the roofs of both court buildings.

The suspect didn’t say a word as his attorneys did all the talking. But he is expected to enter a plea next Monday for his second court appearance. For now, he is being held in solitary confinement in the Arapahoe County jail without bail.

Prior to his court appearance, Holmes’ mugshot became viral on the net.

New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said that Holmes told police that he was the Joker, Batman’s enemy in The Dark Knight.

“We have some information, most of it is public. It clearly looks like a deranged individual. He had his hair painted red, he said he was ‘The Joker,’ obviously the ‘enemy’ of Batman,” he said.

Great Britain 1 New Zealand 0: GB girls kick off Olympics in style with Cardiff victory

Stephanie Houghton gave Great Britain Olympic lift-off in Cardiff with the only goal against New Zealand.

In front of a record international crowd in the UK for a women’s game, the 24-year-old curled home a superb second-half free-kick to give the home side a win that puts them on track for a place in the last eight of the 12-team competition.

Of almost equal importance, it maintained the feel-good factor sweeping around the country ahead of Friday’s opening ceremony.

For Durham-born Houghton it was fitting reward for the courage she showed to battle back from the disappointment of missing both the 2007 World Cup and 2009 European Championship through injury.

Even at last year’s World Cup, her contribution was limited to just 39 minutes of the quarter-final defeat to France.

Watching from the stands, FIFA president Sepp Blatter must have been impressed at the cool manner of Houghton’s finish, which secured a deserved win for Hope Powell’s players, who take on Cameroon at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday.

Having complained so often at the lack of wider exposure her players have received down the years, Powell could hardly moan at the immense expectation that went with being the very first event of London 2012.

The enormity seemed to seep through though and, for 15 minutes, Team GB found themselves on the back foot against a New Zealand side that extended their hosts’ defensive capabilities, with Hannah Wilkinson a particular danger.

That opening period was halfway through before Powell’s side managed their first effort on goal, a curling Houghton free-kick which was pushed away by Jenny Bindon.

It was a foretaste of what was to come.

It was also the trigger for a more cohesive attacking display, with the supporters – large enough in number but swamped by the sheer size of the arena – right behind their team for all the debate about whether there should actually be a GB presence on the football pitch at these Games.

There was even a ripple of ‘GB’ around the stadium, although it came from the voices of school-age fans who will care little for the politics that overshadows a concept where reservations run deeper than Scottish duo Kim Little and Ifeoma Dieke opting not to sing God Save The Queen.

With Arsenal full-back Alex Scott starting to make her presence felt with regular forays forward from right-back, Great Britain began to get on top.

Scott failed to make the most of a decent chance after she had skipped into the box and Anita Asante was also off target with a couple of headers.

Asante went closest to breaking the deadlock with a move that took place almost in slow motion as Eniola Aluko’s cross dropped to the far post.

There seemed little conviction in Asante’s header. The direction was good though, with Bindon out of position and thankfully for New Zealand the post came to her rescue.

Great Britain continued to create chances following the introduction of Ellen White at half-time.

Jill Scott seemed to duck under Houghton’s cross as Bindon somehow pushed it behind, then Scott had a goalbound effort blocked by Ali Riley.

When White lacked the pace to race away from the New Zealand defence, allowing Riley to block, it added to the hosts’ frustrations and brought a fear their superiority was not going to be rewarded.

To the Cardiff crowd’s delight, however, in the 64th minute Houghton kept her nerve with a 25-yard free-kick as she curled expertly into the bottom corner, with Bindon nowhere.

The cheers of delight were almost equalled by those of relief when a ridiculous mix-up between Scott and Dieke sent Sarah Gregorious clean through.

Gregorious panicked though, and rolled a pitiful attempt straight to Karen Bardsley.

The Linkoping goalkeeper was called on again nine minutes from time, when she tipped an Amber Hearn shot over.

GB were not to be denied though as they secured a win that will be acknowledged far beyond the Welsh capital.

Fifty Shades of Grey The Movie: The Early Favourites

It is the most talked-about book of the season – the most erotic and sensual novel to hit out shelves in years, written by British writer, E.L. James. Set largely in Seattle, it is the first instalment in a trilogy that traces the deepening relationship between a college graduate, Anastasia Steele, and a young business magnate, Christian Grey.

The Plot…

Anastasia Steele is a young college student who is drafted by her best friend Katherine Kavanagh to interview the successful young entrepreneur Christian Grey for their student newspaper. Steele finds him attractive, confident, commanding, and intimidating. She leaves the interview convinced it went badly; she tries to forget about Grey until he turns up at the hardware store where she works part-time. After Grey leaves the hardware store, Steele realises that she likes him. Grey tries to warn her that he is not a “heart and flowers” kind of guy, but this makes Steele want him more and want to uncover his secret. Grey also admits he wants her for her beauty, wit, and independent spirit, but on his own terms. Steele is shocked to learn Grey’s singular erotic taste. Grey proposes a BDSM relationship, which Steele knows nothing about. When the couple embarks on a passionate, physical and daring affair, Steele learns more about her own dark desires, as well as the Grey’s secrets.

The Movie…

There are talks about replicating all the power, drama, passion, sex and artistry of the book into a motion picture but the big question is, who will play the roles of Christian and Anastasia.

For Anastasia, here are the top 5 names that could possibly give life to this controversial character;

EMMA WATSON

EMMA STONE

ALEXIS BLEDEL

KRISTEN STEWART

ROONEY MARA

I would personally go for either Rooney or Emma Stone – whoever plays this part needs to be exceptionally brilliant in terms of acting and both actresses definitely got it. I won’t be surprised though if Emma Watson gets it as this could be the biggest non-Harry Potter break she is waiting for.

As for Christian Grey’s character, a lot of names pop up but remember, whoever is chosen to play this role needs to possess not just the acting ability but also that physical charisma, the body, the face, the sex appeal as this film will certainly (heavily) rely on Christian Grey;

IAN SOMERHALDER

HENRY CAVILL

KELLAN LUTZ

MICHAEL FASSBENDER

RYAN GOSLING

Michael and Kellan would be good choices – underrated, fit for the character although I think, of these 5, Ryan Gosling would be the perfect choice. He certainly embodies everything that is Christian Grey. Ryan and Emma Stone will actually make a perfect pair.

What about you guys, who do you think should bag these coveted roles?
